How to Use Zashi Wallet

The easiest way to use Zcash. A guide to the official wallet built by the Electric Coin Company for seamless shielded payments.

What is Zashi?

Zashi is a dedicated, self-custody wallet for **Zcash (ZEC)** developed by the creators of the Zcash protocol (ECC). Unlike complex developer wallets, Zashi is built for user experience. It handles the heavy cryptography of "Shielded" transactions automatically, ensuring your financial history remains private without the technical headache.

Shielded by Default

Zashi prioritizes Z-addresses. Transactions are encrypted on the blockchain, hiding sender, receiver, and amount.

Coinbase Integration

Unique to Zashi, you can connect your Coinbase account to buy ZEC and deposit it directly into your shielded wallet seamlessly.

Setup Guide

1 Step 1: Download & Install

Zashi is available for mobile devices only.

iOS (iPhone)

Download from the App Store.

Android

Download from the Google Play Store.

2 Step 2: Create Wallet & Secure It

Zashi makes onboarding fast, but do not skip the security steps.

  1. Open the app and tap "Create new wallet".
  2. Recovery Seed: Zashi will generate a seed phrase. You must write this down on paper.
  3. Verification: The app will ask you to verify the seed to ensure you saved it correctly.
  4. PIN/FaceID: Set up biometric security to protect the app from unauthorized access on your phone.

3 Step 3: Funding Your Wallet

You have two ways to get ZEC into Zashi.

Method A: Standard Transfer

Tap "Receive". You will see a Unified Address (QR Code). You can send ZEC to this address from any other wallet or exchange. Zashi automatically detects if the sender supports shielded transactions.

Method B: Coinbase Integration

Tap the "Add Funds" or Coinbase icon. Log in to your Coinbase account. You can buy ZEC or transfer existing holdings directly to your Zashi wallet instantly.

4 Step 4: Sending Privately

Zashi ensures your spending is private.

  • Tap "Send".
  • Scan the recipient's QR code or paste their Z-address.
  • Memos: You can attach an encrypted message (Memo) to the transaction. This is useful for order numbers or private notes.
  • Swipe to confirm. The transaction is broadcast to the Zcash blockchain, encrypted by zk-SNARKs.
