How to Install & Use Mustard Wallet

Reclaim your privacy on the Litecoin network. A complete guide to using Mustard Wallet's trustless CoinJoin features.

What is Mustard Wallet?

Mustard Wallet is an open-source, non-custodial privacy wallet for **Litecoin (LTC)**. It is a fork of the famous Wasabi Wallet (for Bitcoin) and implements the same **Chaumian CoinJoin** technology.

Why use it?

Litecoin is a public ledger. If you send LTC directly from an exchange to a market, you are traceable. Mustard Wallet allows you to "mix" your coins with other users trustlessly, breaking the transaction history link.

Setup Guide

1 Step 1: Download & Install

Mustard Wallet is available for all major desktop operating systems.

Official Source

Always download from mustardwallet.com.

Requirements

Available for Windows (`.msi`), macOS (`.dmg`), and Linux (`.deb`/`.tar.gz`). No mobile version exists.

2 Step 2: Generate Wallet & Security

Launch Mustard and click "Generate Wallet".

THE PASSWORD IS CRITICAL

Mustard Wallet uses your password as a "13th seed word" to encrypt your private keys. If you lose this password, your funds are unrecoverable, even with the seed phrase.

  1. Create Password: Use a strong password you will not forget.
  2. Backup Words: Write down the 12 Recovery Words. Store them physically offline.
  3. Test Backup: It is good practice to delete the wallet file and try to restore it immediately with your words and password to ensure you have them correct before depositing funds.

3 Step 3: Receiving & Coin Control

Mustard uses Bech32 addresses (starting with `ltc1...`) for lower fees and SegWit compatibility.

  • Click the Receive tab.
  • Labeling: You MUST label every address (e.g., "From Coinbase"). This allows you to manage coins separately ("Coin Control") so you don't accidentally mix private coins with KYC coins.
  • Click "Generate Receive Address" and send your LTC there.

4 Step 4: Running a CoinJoin

This is the main feature of Mustard. It combines your inputs with others to obfuscate ownership.

  1. Go to the CoinJoin tab.
  2. Select the coins you want to mix (check the boxes next to them).
  3. You will see a "Target Anonymity Set" slider. Higher = More private, but takes longer and costs more fees. (Default is usually fine).
  4. Enter your password to sign the request.
  5. Click "Enqueue Selected Coins".
  6. Wait: The wallet must remain open. Mustard will automatically participate in rounds until your anonymity target is reached.
